About Monero
Monero (XMR) is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency launched in April 2014. Every transaction is private by default: ring signatures hide the sender, stealth addresses hide the recipient, and RingCT (Ring Confidential Transactions) hides the amount, so outside observers cannot link payments or see balances.
Monero is secured by proof-of-work mining with the RandomX algorithm, which is optimized for ordinary computer processors to keep mining accessible. A new block is produced roughly every two minutes, and since the main emission ended in 2022 the network pays a constant tail emission of 0.6 XMR per block to keep miners securing the chain.
