About POL (ex-MATIC)
POL is the native token of the Polygon network and the successor to MATIC. The upgrade from MATIC to POL began in September 2024, and POL is now used to pay transaction fees on Polygon PoS and for staking by the validators who secure the network.
POL is designed to serve the wider Polygon ecosystem: validators who stake it can secure several chains connected through Polygon's aggregation layer (AggLayer) and earn rewards from them. The token started with a supply of 10 billion POL and an annual emission of 2%, split between validator rewards and a community treasury.
